Seven suspects including the Anuradhapura Mayor have been further remanded until July 8 for damaging a housing during the 1999 presidential elections.
The order was issued when the suspects were produced before Tambuttegama Magistrate K.A Ramila Nadeeshani today (Jun 24).
During today's hearing, the lawyer appearing for the accused had filed a bail request seeking to release the suspects on bail. However, court did not take up the request instead ordered the suspects to be further remanded.
Anuradhapura Mayor, H.P Somadasa, former North Central Provincial Council Chairman T.M.R Siripala, Talawa Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman I. Nuwan Tennakoon, Rajanganaya Pradeshiya Sabha Vice-Chairman Saman Nilmini, and Grama Niladhari Jagath Chandrasiri are among the seven suspects in the case.
They have been accused of causing damages worth Rs 3 million by damaging a house during presidential elections in 1999.
