An Overall Operational Command in Colombo has been set-up with immediate effect, the Army Headquarters said in a press communiqué today (Apr 29).
The new command would bring together all Army, Navy, Air Force and Police areas within the Western Province and Puttalam District under its command.
Major General Sathyapriya Liyanage, Commander, Security Forces - West will function as the Overall Operational Commander in the establishment, the Army said.
In addition, Navy Rear Admiral W.A.S.S Perera, Air Force Air Vice Marshal W.L.R.P Rodrigo and Police Superintendent L.K.D Anil Priyantha will function as Coordinating Officers of their respective services and the Police in the Command.
The Overall Operational Command will commence duties immediately under the Chief of Staff, the Army Headquarters noted in its press release.
Army Commander Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake has sent a notification to the Ministry of Defence to this effect.
