The annual 25 day festival of historic Nallur Kandaswamy temple is to commence tomorrow with flag hoisting ceremony amidst special security measures by both police and security forces are put in place to ensure the security of thousands of Hindu devotees who are expected to take part in the festival.
The Jaffna Municipal Council (JMC) has allocated Rs 2.5 million for the preparations of the festival which is expected to draw more Hindu devotees from various parts of the country and from the diaspora.
Mayor of JMC, Immanuel Arnold told reporters today that those who come to take part in the festival would be subjected to security measures put in place by police and security forces in order to ensure the security of all the devotees.
Accordingly, road checkpoints and barriers are put in place near the temple premises and access lanes that lead to the temple. At least 650 police personnel are deployed for civilian security purposes.
