Sri Jayawardenapura Kotte Municipal Council member H.M. Ali Usman and his brother were arrested with identical army uniforms and sharp weapons yesterday (Apr 29), Welikada police said.
Haja Mohideen Ali Usman, a national list member of the United National Party was taken into custody along with his brother after they were found with three swords, a manna knife, two mobile phones, computer accessories, and CDs containing footage of army battles.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that the two suspects were linked to the Thowheed Jamath organisation.
According to the police, the seized items were discovered at the the residence of the UNP councillor's brother in Mosque Lane, Nawala Road during a raid carried out by the Police and the Army.
