President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa today said he turned to be ‘victim’ of the allegations levelled by the Swiss embassy local employee about the claim of an abduction.
President Rajapaksa at a meeting with newspaper editors and heads of electronic media institutions said that investigations have now proved that the allegations were false.
“I turned to be the victim because soon after I was elected allegations about white van surfaced”, he said.
He said the incident had been highlighted in the international media and statements regarding this had even been made by Sajith Premadasa.
The President said that a range of technical and other evidence had proved that there was no incident of an abduction.
He said the Swiss embassy in Colombo cannot be faulted as it was not unusual for them to take up the matter with the government when one of its employees makes an allegations. “Accordingly they complained to the Prime Minister and we started investigations on it immediately”, he added.
He said the investigations were slow as the employee was not co-operating and at times had stated she was not well, but they were proceeding.
