Former Mayor of Kandy, Chandra Ranaraja passed away this morning.
She was the wife of former Deputy Minister of Justice Shelton Ranaraja who passed away in August, 2011.
A political traiblazer in her own right, Chandra Ranaraja was elected Kandy's first female mayor in 1990.
She was a mother of five daughters.
The government today granted permission for an Iranian warship with 208 on board to enter the country.
