President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has highlighted the importance of "developing" and absorbing the proposed Batticaloa Campus into the country's university network, the President's Office said.
During a meeting with education sector officials yesterday (Dec 5), the President had issued instructions to prepare a national policy for education within a year.
He had stressed the importance of moving away from the exam-oriented education system to reduce the burden on students.
The President had stated that students who passed their G.C.E. Advanced Level (A/L) examination last year should be enrolled at state universities as soon as possible.
In addition, he had insisted that students who pass A/L exams in the future should be accommodated at state universities within a short period after results are released.
The President had also drawn his attention towards establishing universities in every district and to prepare curricula in line with international standards and the needs of the country.
He had also highlighted the need to train unemployed graduates to address the shortage of teachers and to ensure that there are no unfilled vacancies in schools.
