The National Youth Service Council (NYSC) is to establish youth clubs islandwide under the name ‘Connect 2025 Youth Club’ starting from May 23, 2025.
This announcement was made at a press conference held today, May 22, 2025, at the Government Information Department, with the participation of the Deputy Minister of Youth Affairs, Mr. Eranga Gunasekara, the Chairman and Director General of the NYSC, Mr. Supun Wijeratne, and the Council’s Director, Mr. Jana Selvaraj.
Accordingly, to mark National Youth Day on May 23 the National Youth Services Council (NYSC) will launch the establishment of youth clubs across 14,033 Grama Niladhari divisions starting from tomorrow May 23,2025. In addition, 337 Youth Club Regional Boards will be set up between May 30 and July 15, followed by the formation of 26 Youth Club District Boards from June 1 to July 31.
Addressing the event, the Deputy Minister stated, “We must build youth for the future, not bend the future to match the youth.”
The NYSC is also set to organize the National Board of the Sri Lanka Youth Society Conference at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium on August 12, 2025, in celebration of International Youth Day.
For the year 2025, the NYSC has planned several major projects, including: the National Youth Sports Center, Entrepreneurship Program, Youth Awards Ceremony, Youth Drama Festival and District Drama Workshops, a program to unveil the talents of designers, the Youth Exchange Program, international youth engagement under the ‘Youth Special Pools,’ International Volunteer Programs, Leadership Training Camps, Special Dance and Music Group, MMC/Youth Multipurpose Center, ITE Evening Program, Duke of Edinburgh Tribute Program, Vocational Training Programs, Aesthetic Observations, the NISCO Video Course, Youth Farm Development, Youth Cinema Festival, and the Heiyanthuduwa Sports Training School.
According to the NYSC, Sri Lankan youth between the ages of 15 and 29 are eligible to apply for these programs.
