Arists, politicians and the public have gathered to pay their last respects to veteran actress Malini Fonseka whose funeral takes place with state honours at the Independence Square in Colombo, later today.
The remains of Ms Fonseka was placed at the Tharangani Hall of the National Film Corporation yesterday where thousands gathered until last night to pay their respects.
Today morning the remains were taken to the Independence Square, Colombo 07 where the public will be given an opportunity to pay their final respects until 3.00 p.m.
The funeral proceedings will commence at 3.30 p.m.
Due to the funeral a special traffic plan has been put in place around Independence Square.
Traffic movement along Independence Avenue from the Independence Roundabout will be restricted for approximately 15 minutes as the funeral procession travels from the Ministry of Public Administration Junction to Independence Square via Independence Avenue.
Motorist have been requested to use alternative roads as heavy traffic is expected around Independence Avenue and the Premakeerthi De Alwis Mawatha.
