A six year old student who was on his way to join Grade one class for the first time was killed in a road accident today in Badulla, police said.
The victim is identified as Sivanesan Varun Prathees (6) from Aselapura, Badulla. He was pronounced dead on admission to Badulla district hospital.
According to the police, a container vehicle which was coming from the opposite direction collided with the victim as he was on his way for the first day of school in grade one at a nearby school. He was accompanied by his twin brother and grandmother.
Police said the grandmother was severely injured and currently admitted to Badulla hospital. The driver of the container was taken into custody by police and later remanded after being produced before the Magistrate courts. Further investigations are underway.
