The Supreme Court has ruled that the decision by the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) to expel Environment Minister Naseer Ahamed from the party is valid.
A three-judge bench comprising Justices Preethi Padman Surasena, S. Thurairaja and Mahinda Samayawardhena determined that the SLMC High Command's decision to expel Mr Ahamed, who was elected to Parliament on the SLMC ticket at the 2020 parliamentary election, is valid.
The SC also dismissed the Fundamental Rights petition filed by Mr Ahamed requesting that the Court issues an order invalidating the SLMC's decision to expel him from the party.
