Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe has called the government to disclose its programme on how it plans to address the implications of the US tariffs on Sri Lanka.
Mr Wickremesighe warned that there was a possibility of Sri Lanka losing upto 100,000 jobs due to the tariffs imposed.
He called on the government to consider this as an emergency situation to address the issues immediately while disclosing them to the public.
He said that the implications of the tariffs were many and it goes beyond loss of jobs. He said it would even affect persons who maintain boarding houses and extend support services to the workers..
The former President also warned that Sri Lanka’s balance of payments too could be affected and it could slow down the growth rate.
He warned that borrowing will increase while the economy growth rate reduces.
The former President called on the government to act fast to address the situation.
