The price of Muriate of Potash (MOP) fertilizer, popularly known as ‘Bandi Pohora’ in Sri Lanka, has been slashed by Rs. 4,500 in view of the Yala cultivation season, Minister of Agriculture Mahinda Amaraweera said.
The decision was reached after a proposal in this context was presented by Minister Amaraweera on May 8.
Hence, a 50 kg bag of MOP fertilizer will be reduced by Rs. 4,500, with effect from yesterday (May 15), and will now be available to purchase at Rs. 15,000 at Agricultural Service Centres across the country.
The decrease in price was green lit by the Price Determination Committee of the Ministry with the purpose of minimizing the cost of agricultural production.
