President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has issued a condolence message on the passing away of Pope Francis.
“It is with deep sorrow that I extend my heartfelt condolences on the passing of His Holiness
@Pontifex, on behalf of the people of Sri Lanka. His unwavering commitment to peace, compassion and humanity has left an indelible mark on the world”, a message posted on ‘X’ said.
“May his legacy of compassion, justice, and interfaith harmony continue to inspire generations to come,” he said.
Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa in his condolence message said "Pope Francis led with humility in a time when leadership often forgets its duty to serve. His voice mattered for peace, for the poor, for our shared humanity. Sri Lanka mourns with the world today."
SLPP National Orgaiser Namal Rajapaksa in his condolence message said: "Deeply saddened by the passing of Pope Francis. His unwavering commitment to compassion, justice, and humility touched countless lives across the world. May his soul rest in eternal peace and his legacy of love continue to inspire generations to come."
