The preferential vote result of the Jaffna district has been released. Following are the MPs who have been elected to the Tenth Parliament from Jaffna based on the preferential vote results:
Sivagnanam Shritharan (ITAK): 32,833 votes
Ilankumaran Karunanathan (NPP): 32,102 votes
Ramanathan Arcuna (Ind. 17): 20,487 votes
Dr. Sribavanadarajah Shanmuganathan (NPP): 20,430 votes
Gajendrakumar Ponnambalam (AITC): 15,135 votes
Rajeevan Jeyachandramoorthy: votes 17000
The United States has told Sri Lanka that the disposition of the Iranian naval vessel IRIS Bushehr and its crew is a matter for Colombo to resolve under its own laws and international obligations, while signalling it is in active talks with Sri Lanka to contain Iran’s threat to US interests.
The government today granted permission for an Iranian warship with 208 on board to enter the country.
