Ishara Sewwandi, the main suspect wanted for the shooting inside the Aluthkade No.05 Magistrate's Court premises which killed alleged underworld figure "Ganemulla Sanjeewa," has been arrested in Nepal.
Police confirmed that Sewwandi had been arrested in a joint operation conducted by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and Nepali law enforcement authorities.
According to reliable sources, the Colombo North Criminal Investigation Department (CID) team, which had earlier led the Indonesia mission, also conducted this cross-border operation in Nepal with the support of the Nepal Government and Nepal Police.
Police Media Spoekeman SSP F.U Wootler said that the department of criminal investigation was capable to make arrest by the use of special indigence information obtained from Nepal. Apart from that computer technology too were used to find the location of the supect.
Alleged organised criminal and drug trafficker Sanjeewa Kumara Samararatne alias “Ganemulla Sanjeewa,” was shot dead inside the courtroom of the Aluthkade No.05 Magistrate's Court on February 19, this year. He was shot dead by a gunman disguised as a lawyer. The alleged gunman was later arrested.
Police had earlier stated that Ishara Sewwandi had masterminded the shooting. She had also posed as a lawyer to gain entry to the Aluthkade court complex on the day of the shooting along with the revolver that was to be used in the murder. Police say Sewwandi had passed the revolver, which had been hidden in a book, to the gunman inside the court complex. She had later escaped and fled the country.
The shooting of "Ganemulla Sanjeewa" had been carried out on the orders of Manidunu Padmasiri Perera, alias "Kehelbaddara Padme," who was recently arrested in Indonesia along with four other alleged underworld figures and brought back to Sri Lanka.
