Don Harold Stassen Jayawardena, also known as Harry Jayawardena, a well-known Sri Lankan industrialist and businessman has passed at the age of 82. His funeral would be held tomorrow at the General Cemetery, Kanatte. He was the chairman of Melstacorp and the Honorary Consul General for Denmark in Sri Lanka and one of the richest individuals in Sri Lanka.
The late Mr. Jayawardene started his career in the tea department at the state-owned State Trading Corporation (Consolidated Exports), also known as Consolexpo Ltd after a spell at a British company, then set up Stassens. He subsequently bought stakes in many companies including Aitken Spence and Distilleries Corp of Sri Lanka, both of which he was chairman at the time of his death.

A Sri Lankan man was apprehended at Suvarnabhumi airport for attempting to smuggle wildlife out of the country after three ball pythons were found hidden in his underwear, the Bangkok post reported.
