(UPDATED) The main suspect involved in the murder of five persons in the Delft island has been arrested with gold jewellery stolen from the house.
The man, who had recently returned from Germany had hacked to death five persons including three women, had removed the jewellery items and escaped from the island in the early hours of Saturday.
The family members had redeemed the gold items from the bank on Friday.
The 53 year old suspect is due to be produced in courts today.
The suspect was arrested while hiding in Punuguthivu.
He reportedly told police that he killed all of them to prevent being identified and that if he had only robbed the jewellery he would have got easily identified.
The suspect when he visits the island he usually stays in this house.
The items solen include 26 sovereigns of gold, clothes and mobile phones . All of them have been seized from the suspect.
