A former top official of the State Engineering Corporation of Sri Lanka taken into custody by the Bribery Commission for allegedly misusing staff and property of the Corporation to renovate the United National Party (UNP) Headquarters was produced in courts and granted bail.
The Colombo Chief Magistrate courts was told that the former Director of the State Engineering Corporation Nilu Dilhara Wijedasa along with the then Working Director P.Jayathilaka were responsible for under taking the renovation.
However, only Mr Wijedasa was arrested and produced in courts while the Bribery Commission said that Mr Jayathilaka is due to be arrested later.
Bribery Commission official Sulochana Hettiaarachchi said that the actions had caused a loss of over Rs. 1.6 million to the government by using SECSL employees and property to renovate Sirikotha in 2019.
Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanka S. Bodaragama released Mr Wijedasa on bail two surety bonds of Rs. 1 million each and imposed an overseas travel ban on him..
The case will be taken up again on December 9.
