Former Senior DIG Lalith Jayasinghe was found guilty of harbouring a key suspect in the rape and murder of schoolgirl Sivalokananthan Vidya that shook the nation in 2015.
When the case was taken up today at Vavuniya High Court, the Court found that the former top police official assisted a key suspect over the incident known as Swiss Kumar. He was handed in four years of Rigorous Imprisonment (RI) by the Court.
Earlier, indictments were filed that the former Senior DIG committed an offence punishable under section 209 of the Penal Code.
State counsel Nishanth Nagaratnam appeared on behalf of the Attorney General.
