Update: The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) announced that the current government has not imposed the embarkation levy of US dollars 60 as a new levy, the President’s Media Division said.
Passengers leaving the country from Bandaranaike International Airport will be required to pay 60 US dollars while those leaving Colombo International Airport, Ratmalana and Jaffna International Airport will have to pay 30 US dollars as an embarkation fee.
The levies were announced in a government notification signed by President Ranil Wickremesinghe as the Minister of Finance. These regulations are cited as the Embarkation Levy (Airlines/Ship) Regulations, No.01 of 2023 and will come into operation from January 12, 2023.
Those leaving Sri Lanka from an airport other than Mattala, Ratmalana, or Jaffna International Airport must pay an embarkation levy of 60 US dollars. Those leaving from the Bandaranaike International Airport will be required to pay this levy.
Those who leave from Sri Lanka by sea will have to pay an embarkation levy of 60 US dollars.
However, Mattala Mahinda Rajapaksa International Airport will be exempted from this levy for a period of two years from the date of commencement of operations by an international airline.
The levies will be applicable till March 26, 2023 (for Ratmalana airport) and July 11, 2023 (for Jaffna airport).
