A high ranking delegation of the Chinese embassy in Colombo is currently visiting Northern province this week and engaged in various cultural and social activities with the aim of winning the hearts of locals.
In Mannar, the embassy took steps to distribute Rs 6230 worth dry ration packages to over 200 families who are affected by the ongoing economic crisis ahead of the upcoming Sinhala and Tamil new year. The packages were donated by the Chinese Buddhist Association and temples from China.
Meanwhile, the embassy also came forward to construct a deep well water purification plant at Mathota Temple in Thiruketheeswaram, Mannar to provide drinking water to 1,500 villagers of all communities.
In addition, the delegation also held meetings with local civil society representatives and media personnel in Mannar and Jaffna as well. (Pix by N. Lohathayalan)
