Archbishop of Colombo, Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith today called President Anura Kumara Dissanayake to establish an Independent Prosecutor’s office to monitor investigations and filing action related to the Easter Sunday attacks.
He made the call addressing an event to mark the sixth anniversary of the Easter Sunday attacks held at the St. Anthony’s Shrine in Kochchikade.
The Cardinal also called the President to present to Parliament the full report of the Presidential Commission on Easter Sundy attacks which was chaired by Supreme Court Justice Janak de Silva.
He said the report, currently has been limited to the Parliamentary library and the government should make the report public soon.
The Cardinal also called the government, if required laws should be amended enabling them to take swift action against those responsible for the attacks.
He also called on the government to take legal action against all persons responsible for the Easter Sunday attacks, irrespective of their position held, to implement all the recommendations made by the Presidential Commission and to carryout a full investigation about the information revealed in the UK’s Channel 4 documentary programme.
Earlier a march was held from St Lucia's Cathedral to the St Anthony's shrine and was attended by families of easter Sunday victims.
