Ajith Gallage, the owner of a Bird Park in Nagarawawa, Hambantota, has been remanded over allegations of concealing illegally imported motorcycles, in a warehouse owned by him.
He was arrested in Narahenpita today and produced in the Hambantota Magistrate’s Court where he was remanded until July 25..
His arrest came five days after police detected 21 imported motorcycles found inside a store room in the Bird Park, and arrested two employees there.
Police informed courts that some of the motorcycles detected were prohibited from being brought into the country. The seized bikes included eight luxury Harley-Davidson bikes and four tricycles,
The raid was carried out by the Central Anti-Corruption Task Force.
Police said they estimated that the total value of all seized motorcycles exceeds Rs. 200 million.
