An efficient online-based system to obtain birth, marriage and death certificates from the Registrar General's Department from last Monday onwards.
Sri Lankans will soon be able to obtain the copies of their deeds and title reports through the online system and the online system conforms the President’s “Vistas of Prosperity and Splendour” policy statement in realizing the Citizen-Centric Digital Government, Defence Secretary Gen. Kamal Gunaratne (Retd) said.
Further adding, Gen. Gunaratne said the introduction of the online system with effect from 02 August 2021 is a giant leap forward by the Department which is governed under the State Ministry of National Security and Disaster Management.
The Registrar General Maddumabandara Weerasekara highlighting the significance of having correct and valid certificates said the Department scanned birth, marriage and death certificates registered after the year 1960 and saved them in a centralized system to facilitate the citizens to obtain their respective certificate using a simple procedure.
During the media brief, Senior Deputy Registrar General Lakshika Ganepola and Assistant Director (Information Technology) Tharaka Prashantha explained the procedure involved in the process using a smart phone/computer and making the due payment with Visa/Master Card.
Sri Lankans have been facilitated to get their birth, marriage and death certificate since the centralized system at the Registrar General’s Department contains 36 million scanned certificates registered from 1960 to 2018.
It was emphasized that the facility also allows people to collect the certificates via Speed Post or at the closest Divisional Secretariat.
