Religion: A Joyful Easter - Christ at the Centre of Our Lives!

By Timothy A. Edward

True treasures emerge from the harmonious blend of the old and the new. In other words, true value is found when we embrace both the old and the new. Just as ancient gramophones gain immense worth when restored with modern technology, the Old Testament reveals how God’s presence surrounded key figures like Abraham, Isaac, Joseph, Moses and David. They witnessed His power in various forms - a burning bush, a heavenly ladder, Moses’ staff, the Ark of the Covenant - yet His presence remained external to them.

Christ, the Perfect Passover Lamb

Unlike the Old Testament encounters, Christ fulfilled God's redemptive plan by becoming the perfect Passover Lamb, spotless and without blemish. Before the foundation of the world, He was destined to take away the sins of humanity. He entered this world as a servant, humbling Himself to redeem mankind (Philippians 2:6-8).

As He hung on the cross, Christ bore the weight of humanity's sin, momentarily separated from the Father (Romans 5:8). He died and was buried, but on the third day, He rose, fulfilling the Scriptures (1 Corinthians 15:3-4). His resurrection unites us eternally with God, the true reason for celebrating Easter.

Christ in the Centre of Our Lives

Christ's resurrection transformed everything. No longer external, He now dwells within us, shaping and beautifying our lives (John 15:5). Paul describes this transformation in Galatians 2:20: "I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me."

The Old Testament saints longed for this intimacy with God but only experienced glimpses of it. Today, we enjoy the full blessings of Christ’s sacrifice - His presence within us, guiding us in this life and into eternity (Matthew 6:33).

Living with Christ at the Centre

To have Christ at the centre of our lives means seeking the things above, where He reigns (Colossians 3:1-2). This Easter, beyond festivities, we must reflect on the suffering in our world - wars, poverty, hunger, sickness - and recognise Christ as the One who carries our burdens (Isaiah 53:3-4). Remember, Jesus said in Matthew 25:40, "Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me."

Our names are inscribed on God’s Hands (Isaiah 49:16), a reminder of His love. Just as the angel proclaimed at the empty tomb, “He is not here; He has risen!” (Matthew 28:5-6). Christ lives - not in a grave - but within us, calling us to live in His love and reflect it to others.

Overcoming the Inner Struggles

Living with Christ at the centre requires surrendering our desires. Though our spirit longs for righteousness, our flesh is weak (Romans 7:15-25). Paul urges us: "Present your bodies as a living sacrifice, be transformed by the renewal of your mind." (Romans 12:1-2).

Embracing Resurrection Power

This Easter, let us pray for the strength to fully surrender to Christ, keeping Him at the heart of our lives. May we practice His Presence daily - living in love and prayer.  Jesus declares, “I no longer call you servants, but friends.” (John 15:15). Let’s embrace Him as our closest companion, experiencing His resurrection power now and forever (John 11:25-26).
