Sri Lanka’s tea production in 2025 rose marginally to 264.1 million kg from 262.6 in the previous year.
All elevations were higher than last year with High and Mid Growns in particular, contributing most to the year-on-year gain, the market report from Asia Siyaka stated.
This week there was 5.55 million kg of tea on offer at the Colombo Tea auction with 2.37 million kg of Low Grown Main Grades and 1.99 million kg of High and Mid Grown Main Grades.
A fair number of invoices remained unsold due to lack of suitable bids. In the Premium Flowery catalogues all teas declined substantially.
Few Select Western BOP/BOPFs sold at slightly dearer rates on special inquiry; others were irregularly lower upto Rs.40 and more.
Nuwara Eliya BOP/BOPFs were mostly unsold. Udapussellawa BOP/BOPFs were lower Rs.20 to Rs.30. Uva BOPs were lower Rs.20 to Rs.30, but BOPFs were firm to slightly dearer. Better Medium BOPs were sharply lower, whilst others were about firm. Clean

The government today granted permission for an Iranian warship with 208 on board to enter the country.
The United States has told Sri Lanka that the disposition of the Iranian naval vessel IRIS Bushehr and its crew is a matter for Colombo to resolve under its own laws and international obligations, while signalling it is in active talks with Sri Lanka to contain Iran’s threat to US interests.
