Femina opens a Lankan page

Femina opens a LAnkan pageThe popular Indian women's magazine 'Femina' launched its Sri Lankan edition on October 1.

The 40-page special Sri Lankan section published monthly, is fitted into the magazine, providing a bonus for its Lankan readers with specialised articles on local women, careers, motherhood, beauty and other trademark Femina material. In her foreword to the Sri Lankan section, editor Sathya Saran says, "Sri Lankan women have always had a special place in their homes for Femina. It's 'Femina's' turn now, to make room for Lankan women, in its heart, in its pages."

She adds, "...it is with admiration that we noted the ability of the women of Lanka to adapt to a spectrum of situations. The easy capacity to take on the best of Oriental and Western cultures, both of which blow through this tiny island by turn, gave us valuable insights. Perhaps 'Femina' will learn enough of this difficult skill to be able to help Indian readers caught in transition to bridge the gap and straddle two cultures as effortlessly."

Distributor and business representative of Femina in Sri Lanka Mr. Vijitha Yapa said 'Femina' was popular in the country due to the wide array of subjects covered and its innovative ideas on fashion and beauty. He added that Lankan readers get the special section free and he anticipated that circulation would double within an year. Femina is sold at Rs 85 and is available at leading booksellers and newsagents. The cover of the Lankan section features well-known model Dilkie Weerasinghe photographed by Mettasena.
