Miss Working Girl 1999

Getting hotter and hotter

The Galle Face Hotel, hosted the first Mini Pageant of the Miss Working Girl '99 contest on March 6.

The winner of this mini pageant will be announced at the grand finale of the contest on March 27, at Hotel Lanka Oberoi. She will receive Rs. 10,000/- from Nine Hearts (Pvt) Ltd. who are the sponsors for this event as well as the official photographers for Miss Working Girl 1999.

Ramzi Hair and Beauty Salon as official hair dressers handled the hair and make-up of all the contestants. A distinguished panel of judges will select the Miss Photogenic from the photographs taken at the Galle Face Hotel by Nine Hearts.

Today, the action moves to LTI Sinbad Resort Hotel Kalutara where the Miss Talent Contest will be held. Here too the winner will receive Rs. 10,000/- while the first and second runner-up will win Rs. 5,000/- cash each from EAP Technologies (Pvt) Ltd who are the sponsors of this event.

The Miss Personality contest will be held on March 21 at the Airport Garden Hotel with the winner receiving Rs. 10,000/- from Sign Advertising Services, who are the sponsors of this event.

All the finalists will be amply rewarded for their contribution to making this pageant a great success. The lucky winner who bags the Miss Working Girl '99 crown at Hotel Lanka Oberoi will receive the best of the rewards on offer. They include cash prizes of Rs. 30,000/-, Rs 20,000/- and Rs.10,000/- and air tickets from Green Lanka (Pvt) Ltd, to Singapore, Bombay & Madras for the winner and two runners-up respectively. The winner will receive a gold necklace from Swarnamahal Jewellers and a Singer sewing machine from Ceylon Weighing Machines Ltd. Other valuable household gifts for the winner and a Rs. 750,000 LIPS (Ladies Insurance Protection Scheme) cover from the Ceylinco Insurance Co. Ltd for the winner and runner-up and cash prizes and gifts for all sixteen participants, have been lined-up.

The Miss Working Girl pageant has the dual purpose of recognizing and rewarding the talents of smart young working girls of Sri Lanka. It has all the glamour and glitter of an international pageant.

The main sponsor for the event is Swarnamahal Jewellers. The media sponsors are Wijeya Group of Newspapers and Swarnawahini. Senaka de Silva will choreograph the show. The Miss Working Girl Outfit is designed and stitched by Mondy Dress Boutique of Majestic City. Supreme Orchid will be the Official Florist.

Samantha SchucroftTrilby PereiraThe Miss Working Girl Pageant is organized for the 14th time by the Lions Club of Thimbirigasyaya of the International Association of Lions Clubs, District 306C. The main event is on March 27 at Hotel Lanka Oberoi followed by dinner and dancing to the rhythms of the ''Gypsies'' sponsored by Pan Asia Bank Ltd.
