Oliver up, up and away

Air Force Chief Air Marshal Oliver Ranasinghe is certainly a lucky man.

If he had won an extended term of service from April 17, a Presidential Committee's recommendations notwithstanding, he has now taken wings to Singapore.

He is an honoured guest at the Singapore Air Show which is currently under way.

The 'Hit' man

Even his own bosses are angry with the man. He does not obey their advice.

It only takes a couple of glasses of Dom Perignon and he goes berserk. The other day he boasted that he could have the underworld eliminate scribes who offend him within just thirty minutes.

The man, who is widely regarded as the keeper of the purse, has access at the highest levels - from the powerful and mighty to the one's with gun power.

It seems he wants to see real life versions of the thrillers he once marketed to eke out an existence.

A case of a pocket sized Hitler in a local mafia. Hitler because of the first three words - he wants to be the hit man. What a change from best hits !!

UNP sympathisers

Four Inspectors were promoted to the rank of Assistant Superintendents of Police only to be demoted days later.

One message followed the other.

The first spoke of the promotion and the second, about their being reverted to their earlier rank.

The reason ? No one would comment officially. But insiders say it was found out that the foursome were UNP sympathisers.

Lucky James Bond

This is also the case of one who does not obey the orders of his boss.

If his role was to play sleuth in an European capital, he was known to have excelled in doing so. However, it was not for his employers who pay him but to a relatively different entity.

Now comes the news that our James Bond has won an year's extension of service. The going was never better for him.

The phones, fax machines and telexes are all there free of charge.

Hot favourite out

It seemed like a mini election campaign. The top cops were all busy canvassing, each through their political masters.

All for the post of DIG Colombo which is falling vacant.

A hot favourite, one who sees blue behind every incident, they say, is now out.

The man has fallen from grace after it was discovered he does not hide his feelings for the boss and his doctoral friends.

One insider said the intrigue that accompanies the campaign is worse than those that occur in political stakes.
