Lecture on elephant behaviours

A lecture on the ‘Five behaviours that underpin effective management of Sri Lankan elephants’ will be delivered by Prof Devaka Weerakoon, Professor of Zoology and Environmental Sciences, University of Colombo, on May 14 (Thursday) at 6 pm at the auditorium, 6th Floor, ILC (Library) Building, Faculty of Science, University of Colombo.

The lecture is organised by the Sri Lanka Natural History Society (SLNHS).

Exploring the lack of attention to the 5 key elephant behaviours that are critical to effective management, Prof Weerakoon will show how this has contributed to the continued failure of current approaches to the human-elephant conflict, a pressing conservation challenge.

The lecture will offer important insights into what must be reconsidered if Sri Lanka is to ensure the long-term conservation of its elephants.

Entrance is free and all are welcome. Ample parking available.
