Sri Lanka Women concluded a highly successful tour of Bangladesh with thrilling 3-run win in the third and final T20I at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Saturday, completing a comprehensive 3-0 series whitewash. The triumph added to their earlier 2-1 win in the ODI series, underlining a commanding white-ball performance away from home.

Led by Chamari Athapaththu, Sri Lanka posted a competitive 87-6 in a rain-curtailed nine-over contest after being put into bat. Athapaththu once again stood tall, striking a fluent 41 off 27 deliveries, laced with five fours and a six, setting the tone at the top of the order. She found support from Imesha Dulani, who provided early impetus with a brisk 19 off just 10 balls.

However, Sri Lanka lost momentum in the middle overs as Bangladesh fought back impressively through Sultana Khatun, who returned outstanding figures of 3 for 8 in her two overs, and Sanjida Akter Meghla, who chipped in with a wicket. A late cameo of 15 off 7 balls from Kavisha Dilhari ensured Sri Lanka finished with a defendable total.

Chasing 88 for victory, Bangladesh Women mounted a spirited response, led by Sobhana Mostary, who top scored with 21 off 15 balls, and captain Nigar Sultana, who contributed a quick 13. At 56-2, the hosts appeared to be well on course, but Sri Lanka’s bowlers staged a crucial comeback in the latter stages.

Athapaththu once again was impressive, claiming 2 for 15, while Sugandika Kumari delivered a key spell of 2 for 22. Nimasha Meepage and Mithali Ayodhya also picked up a wicket apiece as Bangladesh were restricted to 84-6 in nine overs, falling agonisingly short.

Brief Scores
  • Sri Lanka Women 87 for 6 (9) (Chamari Athapaththu 41, Imesha Dulani 19; Sultana Khatun 3/8)
  • Bangladesh Women 84 for 6 (9) (Sobhana Mostary 21, Nigar Sultana 13; Chamari Athapaththu 2/15, Sugandika Kumari 2/22)
