Kandy’s pavement hawkers get an Avurudu bonanza

The Kandy Municipal Council has unanimously decided to allow pavement hawkers to trade on the upper floor of the George E. de Silva park for ten days, beginning today, in view of the upcoming Avurudu season.
The decision was reached during a meeting on Friday presided over by the Mayor of Kandy, offering a temporary reprieve for hawkers who had previously been banned from the city’s pavements.
