Extension of emergency regulations to be debated in Parliament Tuesday
View(s):Parliament will debate the extension of emergency regulations on Tuesday after President Anura Kumara Dissanayake extended by another month the regulations under the Public Security Ordinance.
The emergency regulations were promulgated by the President on November 28, 2025 following the devastation caused by Cyclone Ditwah.
The regulations provided for the appointment of a Commissioner-General of Essential Services to execute and coordinate all activities relating to the maintenance of essential services as well as other relief activities.
The Resolution under the Public Security Ordinance will be taken up for debate on Tuesday from 3.30 p.m. to 5.30 p.m. even though opposition MPs have informed the Committee on Parliamentary Business headed by Speaker Jagath Wickramaratne that the time allocated for debating this Resolution is insufficient.
