Classical Encounters by the Halpe Andree School of Music
View(s):Classical Encounters – an evening of soul-stirring classical music will be presented by the Halpe Andree School of Music on October 24 at 7.30 p.m. at St. Andrew’s Church, Scots Kirk.
Highlights of the programme include a 13-year-old diploma candidate performing Rachmaninoff on piano under Mrs. Rayanthi Kumarasinghe, and Grade 8 students and diploma candidates showcasing violin works by Corelli and Vivaldi.
The Halpe Andree School of Music was founded by violinist and choir director, Haasinee Halpe Andree and comprises Choral Spectrum, Petite Chorale, and No Strings Attached. The choirs have performed at significant events, including the “Symphony for a Child” concert (2018) to raise awareness on AIDS, the Easter attack commemoration programme on BBC Radio, and the Sri Lanka Reconciliation Movement’s “In Their Memory” memorial exhibition in 2019.

Choral Spectrum: All Island Winners at IIMSD 2025
The ensembles have garnered many awards and accolades: Silver at the Asia Pacific Choir Games (2017); Gold and Best Religious Choir at IMSSS (2017) for Choral Spectrum; Best Popular Choir at IIMSD (2018) for Petite Chorale; Gold and Best Religious Choir at IIMSD (2022) for both choirs; culminating in All Island Winner titles at IIMSD 2025. The school’s soloists have also earned Gold and All Island Winner awards.
