A special blessing ceremony to mark the occasion was held at the historic Kotte Raja Maha Viharaya on Friday, August 1. The event brought together a host of veteran artistes, media professionals and Katahanda alumni, all of whom have been part of the foundation’s remarkable journey.
As part of the celebrations, a special commemorative book chronicling the legacy of ‘Katahanda’ was launched and a workshop focused on enhancing oratorical skills was conducted at the foundation’s Mirihana branch.
Srimath Indrajith Liyanage continues the towering legacy of his father, the late Gunadasa Liyanage, a veteran broadcaster and media pioneer. Following in his father’s footsteps, Srimath began his career as a novice announcer at the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC), where he trained under legendary broadcasters such as H.M. Gunasekera, Cyril Rajapakse, Lalith S. Maithripala and Palitha Perera. His early work at SLBC soon paved the way for a dynamic career across radio, television, cinema, theatre, journalism, dubbing and literature.
A prolific author, Srimath has penned nearly 50 books across diverse genres, earning widespread acclaim from Sri Lankan readers. He is also widely respected for his versatility in presenting and announcing programmes on radio, television, stage, and social media, covering musical, religious, and cultural events.
‘Katahanda’, his most recent and notable creation, has become a leading platform for nurturing new talent in Sri Lanka’s media landscape. Through the Katahanda Media Foundation, Srimath continues to inspire and train the next generation of broadcasters and media professionals.
