A talk on Ceylon and Propaganda in the Second World War by Lara Wijesuriya will be held on Tuesday, June 24 at 5 p.m. at 25 Elibank Road, Colombo 5.

British colonial propaganda of World War II encouraged colonized people to contribute more to the war efforts. This presentation showcases several propaganda posters and the perspectives they afford of the Ceylonese ‘Home Front’, the support and criticism the Empire received. This is a free event.

Thé Chats is the latest series by the Collective for Historical Dialogue and Memory (CHDM), on Ceylon’s cultural and artistic history through the lens of its cinema.

The next episode of Reel Ceylon, titled ‘From Rasammah to Rukmani Devi’, will take place on Saturday, June 28 at 6 p.m. at CHDM, 25 Elibank Road, Colombo 5. This session with Prof. Asoka de Zoysa will explore Rukmani Devi’s evolution as a performer, from her nurthi stage roots to her pioneering roles in early Sinhala “talkie” films and her adaptation to the calypso-style musical wave of the 1960s.

The event is open to all, with a suggested donation of Rs. 1000. Registration via WhatsApp: 0772103520.
