“Words cannot express the pride we feel as we talk about our father, Sri Sangabo Corea”

Reflecting on his journey fills us with an overwhelming sense of admiration. Sri Sangabo Corea our darling thaththi/seeya epitomizes the qualities of an exemplary leader. He worked at two multinational companies, having made significant contributions in his 23 years at Lever Brothers Ceylon Ltd. He has been described as a ‘human dynamo’. His services were requested and loaned by the company to non-governmental and State-owned organisations whenever requested. He organised the exhibition of exportable Sri Lankan products for the world’s biggest chain store buyers – Sears Roebuck (USA), Woolworth (UK) and Kaarstad and Kuffring (Germany). He also organised ‘Poshanaya‘ on rice substitutes on behalf of the Sri Lanka meals for millions foundation. His name is well known in the music field for introducing Clarence Wijewardene to the music world as the ‘Moonstones’. In response to all he did for him, Clarence composed 2 songs ‘Dilhani’ and ‘Ramani’.

He was at Ceylon Tobacco Company for 8 years as the first Corporate Affairs Manager created by British American Tobacco. He was 4 times secretary of the OBA at S Thoma’s College Mt Lavinia, his alma mater, Chairman of the Royal Thomian cricket match and the most outstanding Jaycee of the Colombo South Jaycees. He was selected ‘The Lion of the Year’ for 2 years in  succession and he organised 7 health camps and  film star cricket festivals in aid of the Lions activities centre. He was a lecturer in marketing at the Colombo University.  Our beloved thaththi/seeya is the son of late C E Victor S Corea, a national hero who fearlessly fought the British government to abolish the Pole Tax. He was raised in Chilaw and has a deep faith in Jesus Christ. Whether in his involvement in his alma mater or his dedication to various charitable causes, he is always eager to give back to God and uplift those in need.

In essence, Mr Sri Sangabo Corea, who we, his children and grandchildren, are immensely proud of, is a man of substance. Of course, behind his success, was our remarkable and beautiful ammi/achchi, Flora, who was a pillar of strength. We are incredibly fortunate to be a part of such an incredible duo. This legacy will continue to inspire us for generations to come.

As we celebrate his 90th birthday on April 8, we thank God for his wonderful life. We pray that he will continue to have good health, great sense of humour and zest for life! Happy Birthday, we love you and adore you.
