‘Monkey Man’, British action thriller co-written by Sri Lankan writer and director Paul Angunawela, is now being screened in theatres around Colombo.
Directed by Dev Patel, British actor with Indian origin who shot to fame as Jamal Malik in Danny Boyle’s drama Slumdog Millionaire (2008) for which he was nominated for the BAFTA awards for the Best Actor in a leading role, the script of ‘Monkey Man’ was co-written by John Collee. Patel’s director debut stars Sharlto Copley, Pitobash, Sobhita Dhulipala, Sikandar Kher, Vipin Sharma, Ashwini Kalsekar, Adithi Kalkunte, and Makarand Deshpande. According to the story a young man ekes out a meagre living in an underground fight club where, night after night, wearing a gorilla mask, he’s beaten bloody by more popular fighters for cash. After years of suppressed rage, he discovers a way to infiltrate the enclave of the city’s sinister elite. As his childhood trauma boils over, his mysteriously scarred hands unleash an explosive campaign of retribution to settle the score with the men who took everything from him.
Released on April 5, the film is now being screened at Liberty Kollupitiya, Movie Works Lite Cinemas, Liberty Kiribathgoda, Colombo City Centre, Kandy City Centre, Majestic Colombo and number of other theatres around the country. Distributed by Universal Pictures, ‘Money Man’ is imported by Liberty Cinemas Ltd.
