Buy your gifts at Mallika Niwasa Samithiya “Avrudu Salpila”
View(s):The Mallika Niwasa Samithiya (Society) LTD has organised an “Avrudu Salpila” with the objective of raising funds for the maintenance of their homes for destitute elderly women and abandoned or orphaned children.
The event is scheduled to be held on Sunday, March 31, from 9.30 am to 4.30 pm, at 45, Visakha Road, Bambalapitiya.
The Avrudu Salpila would have sales of handy work made by elders, children’s clothes, new and nearly new clothes, sarees, linen costumes, jewellery, toys, plants, refreshments and many more items at bargain prices.
The society was founded 1920 and was led by the mother of Anagarika Dharmapala, Mallika Hewavitarne. According to the main objective of the founder which is to “provide shelter to elderly destitute women” the Mallika home was inaugurated in February 1921 with two elders. Currently the shelter provides shelter, nurture, and health care, to nearly 80 elders.
