A call for help
View(s):M A Sanath Premalal (48), who lost his sight in one eye due to an accident when he was 16, and his spouse, A D Menaka Dilrukshi (34), who is completely blind in one eye and partially blind in the other, are requesting public assistance.
Dilrukshi has undergone about 17 surgeries on her eye. She needs to see an eye surgeon monthly in Colombo for treatment. Her monthly expenses for travel and medication are Rs 8,000.
For a living, they were involved in the incense stick business but had to stop as Dilrukshi is unable to work due to post-surgery care.
Dilrukshi and Premalal are struggling to make ends meet with just a Samurdhi allowance of Rs 4,250 and Government disability benefit of Rs 5,000. They currently live on rent in Kosnathota, Godakawela.
