Kylie Minogue to receive BRIT Global Icon award
Kylie Minogue is to receive the BRIT Global Icon award this year. The “Princess of Pop”, now 55, will receive the trophy at the ceremony on March 2 at London’s O2 Arena. Kylie has been nominated in the International Artist of the Year category as well. She scored a top 10 hit with ‘Padam Padam’ in June last year, her first big UK hit in 12 years. She is also due to receive the Billboard Woman in Music Icon Award in March.
Kylie who has sold over 80 million records is currently doing a residency at Venetian in Las Vegas. Her latest release is a duet ‘Dance Alone’ with fellow Australian artist Sia.
YG Marley secures first UK hit
Y.G. Marley, the grandson of the late Bob Marley – the “King of Reggae”, has secured his very first UK hit with ‘Praise Jah In The Moonlight’ at No: 9 on the top 10 singles chart. The reggae track took a big leap from 20 after going viral on social media. It’s the debut hit for the 22-year-old.
YG was encouraged to release the song after he performed it with his mother Lauryn Hill. YG’s father is Rohan Marley. ‘Praise Jah In The Moonlight’ samples Bob Marley’s song ‘Crisis’.
‘Beautiful Things’ leaps to No: 5
A rock ballad that is very popular right now is ‘Beautiful Things’ by the 21-year-old US singer songwriter Benson Boone. The song leaped from 11 to No: 5 this week on the UK Singles chart. The standalone track released on January 24 began its chart journey at No: 18 three weeks ago.
