A shortage of 34,000 teachers has caused a fresh crisis in the education sector.

The lack of teachers has mainly affected schools in the outstations with some schools in remote areas lacking teachers for GCE (A/L) classes.

The problem has been aggravated by several parties filing court action against proposed recruitment plans.

The plans to recruit 13,000 graduate teachers at provincial level and another 23,000 graduate teachers have been held up due to courts cases.
