The Training, Development and Education Programme of World Rugby for the year 2024, conducted by Sri Lanka Rugby (SLR) kicked off from the Northern Province. The programme was held at the Jaffna University and Vavuniya Unoversity with 30 participants each, mainly school leavers and university students from the region, covering the one day programme. The programme was conducted under three categories where renowned and experienced coaches, Viper Gunaratne, Ananda Kasthuriarachchi and Anil Jayasinghe, who are all qualified World Rugby Educators. The Training and Education Programmes were conducted by Viper Gunaratne, a World Rugby qualified educator in Coaching, while Ananda Kasturiarachchi, a World Rugby qualified coach in Strength and Conditioning covered his expertise area. Anil Jayasinghe, a World Rugby qualified coach on Match Officials and Refereeing, was the other contributor.

The programmes were conducted by SLR Coordinator Shamrath Fernando, also the Director Development of SLR, with the able assistance of Thanuja Weerakkody, the Training and Education Manager of SLR, and Roshan de Silva, Administration SLR. This is the first time in the history of 145 years of Sri Lanka Rugby, that the governing body of the sport organised such a training and development programme in the northern.
