The Meteorological Department forecasts more showers for the Northern, Eastern, and North-Central provinces, bringing little relief to the already affected farmers of these areas.

The Department also said showers or thundershowers may occur in some areas of the Sabaragamuwa Province and in Kalutara, Galle, and Matara districts after 2 p.m. The inclement weather conditions in the Uva, Northern, North Western, Eastern, and Sabaragamuwa Provinces have affected more than 29,000 people and 9000 families.

In the North, flood conditions have affected 25,367 people belonging to 7981 families, the Disaster Management Centre said. Many of those affected are from Kilinochchi, Jaffna, and Mullaitivu. About 100 houses in the province have been partially damaged, and nearly a thousand people have lost their livelihoods due to floods.

The maximum rainfall of 50.5mm was recorded from Kanneliya in the Galle district.
