Lakshmi Dias Bandaranaike, widow of the late lawyer and politician Felix R. Dias Bandaranaike passed away peacefully at home yesterday.

A past pupil of Ladies’ College, Colombo, she met her future husband Felix Dias Bandaranaike at the Law Faculty at Peradeniya. They married in 1953. Both husband and wife later passed out as Barristers in the United Kingdom before returning to Sri Lanka where her late husband became a powerful politician holding many portfolios including Justice, Agriculture, Finance and virtual second-in-command to Prime Minister Sirimavo Bandaranaike.

A viewing will be held from 10 a.m. today (27) and a service will be held at 3.30 p.m. at Mahanuge Gardens, Colombo 03. Burial will be held thereafter at 4.30 p.m. at the Anglican Section, General Cemetery, Colombo
