An oversight by the two on-field umpires Dedunu Silva and Shantha Fonseka and the match officials, saw New Zealand off-spinner Eden Carson bowling 11 overs in their 116-run victory against Sri Lanka women at Galle on Friday.

Chasing 330 to win, Sri Lanka were bowled out for 213 runs in the 49th over with Carson recording figures of two for 41 in 11 overs.

Carson had completed her quota following the conclusion of the 45th over but returned to bowl in the 47th over. According to cricinfo.com since the last 55-overs-a-side match in ODIs in 1995, there have been five instances (across men’s and women’s games) where a bowler has bowled beyond 10 over.
