An infant and a 17-year-old boy were killed in two separate bus accidents on the Mahiyanganaya – Kandy road and in Badureliya yesterday while at least 29 persons were injured, police said.

A private bus which was returning with a group of pilgrims from the Bibile area ran off the road as the driver lost control of the bus due to malfunctioning brakes, while passing the Gurulupotha area on the Mahiyangana – Kandy road last morning.

The accident resulted in the death of an infant and injuries to 20 others.

In a separate incident, a 17-year-old schoolboy died and nine others were hospitalised with injuries after a state- owned bus went into an embankment in Baduraliya.
