Sebs earn major honours in drawn big match

The 73rd Battle of the Golds between St. Sebatian’s College and Prince of Wales College ended with Sebastianites earning major honours at the De Zoysa Stadium in Moratuwa yesterday. At stumps, Sebastianites were 207 for the loss of two wickets, with Vimath Dinsara stroking a team’s second century in the match. He and opener Adesh Almeida (79) shared 166 runs second wicket stand before Almeida departed just minutes away from the close of play. On day one, opener Sanesh Fernando hit an unbeaten century — 114 as St. Sebastian’s finished their 60 overs on 219 for 7.

In response Prince of Wales were bowled out for 208 runs with skipper Sandeesh Fernando claiming 6 for 67. Tharindu Amarasingha (73) and Omesh Mendis (65) hit half centuries before they were bowled out in the 60th over.

Sebastianites made a strong reply in the second innings on the back of Dinasara’s and Almeida’s performances. Dinsara remained unbeaten on 101, hitting seven boundaries in his 150 ball innings while Almeida had seven fours and a six in his 151-ball vigil in the middle.
