H P Gooneratne Charity donates funds to children

The H P Gooneratne Charity Fund, maintained by HelpAge Sri Lanka (HASL), donated financial grants for 23 children of employees at HelpAge Sri Lanka at a ceremony conducted under the patronage of HelpAge Council member Nishantha Gooneratne recently.

The objective was to enable children to purchase school books and educational equipment for their studies.

The grants were offered through the Mr and Mrs H P Gooneratne Charity Fund. HelpAge former Executive Director N W E Wijewantha was also present at the ceremony.

HelpAge Executive Director Samantha Liyanawaduge said this annual financial aid distribution programme was commenced in 2015 and over 500 students have so far benefitted.

HelpAge Council Member Nishantha Gooneratne said this scholarship scheme will be continued uninterrupted in the years to come, and they hoped to grant special benefits for children perusing higher studies in universities too.

HelpAge also presented gifts to students who excelled in the Year 5 Scholarship Examination and the GCE Advanced Level Examination.
